The
North Shore Lifeguard Association is proud to announce that
its members are hosting two separate races in June for Oahu’s
paddling community.
On
Saturday June 22 we have organized the 12th Annual Summer
Solstice Race, sponsored by Turtle Bay Resort and supported
by Quiksilver. The 4.5-mile race will start at Turtle Bay
Resort and finish at Sunset Beach Lifeguard Tower. This year’s
race will feature divisions for kayaks and one-man canoes,
as well as stock and open paddleboards. Race time is 11:00AM
sharp. There will be a mandatory safety briefing prior to
the start of the race. The entry fee is $20 in advance or
$25 on race day. Immediately following the finish we will
return to the Turtle Bay Resort for food, refreshments and
awards!
On the following Saturday, June 29 the North Shore Lifeguard
Association is holding a brand new event, as part of the Go
North Shore Sunset on the Beach festivities. This race will
feature 12-foot stock paddleboards only, in a two-mile sprint
at Ali’I Beach. Start time for the race is 2:00 PM and there
is no entry fee! Surf and Sea is providing $500 in cash prizes
that will be awarded to the top three finishers of each division.
Please allow yourself plenty of time for parking, as there
will be a lot going on.
